What is MSP? (MSP kya hai?)
Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the floor price at which government agencies agree to buy a notified crop. It protects farmers from distress selling when mandi prices fall. The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) recommends the rate, and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approves it every season.
The formula is based on the A2+FL cost of production — paid-out costs plus the imputed value of family labour — with a margin of at least 50% for most crops. MSP is announced for 22 crops: 14 Kharif, 6 Rabi, plus jute and copra. This page lists the 20 main crops and uses the 14 supported by the calculator.
MSP vs mandi price vs FRP
- MSP: the national support price. It is not a legal minimum for private buyers, so a trader can still offer less.
- Mandi price: the live auction rate at your APMC. It can be above or below MSP, and varies by market, quality and arrivals.
- FRP: the Fair and Remunerative Price for sugarcane. Sugar mills are legally bound to pay it, unlike MSP for most other crops.
Why use this MSP calculator?
- Know the official rate before a trader quotes you a price.
- Check the maximum quintals your state quota allows from your registered land.
- See gross value, per-acre value, and net payout after commission, cess and hamali.
- Compare the offered price with MSP and estimate what you lose by selling below it.
- Use the weight converter when your slip is in kg or tonnes instead of quintals.
MSP is announced, not guaranteed: procurement is strongest for paddy and wheat, while pulses and oilseeds are bought under the Price Support Scheme only when market prices fall below MSP. Always confirm the current rate and your registration status on the official portal.
How to register for MSP procurement
- Register on your state portal with your land record, Aadhaar and bank details. Examples: Meri Fasal Mera Byora (Haryana), e-Uparjan (Madhya Pradesh), P-PAS (Odisha), e-Paddy (West Bengal), PPS (Telangana) and Anaaj Kharid (Punjab).
- Complete verification of your land and bank account. Without a verified farmer registration, the state may not allot a procurement token.
- Book a token or slot when the procurement window opens for your crop and district.
- Carry the documents to the procurement centre: land record, farmer ID, Aadhaar, bank passbook and the token/slot printout.
- Collect the weighing slip and check that payment goes by DBT to your own bank account.
This page does not check your personal token or payment status. Open the Central Food Grains Procurement Portal (CFPP) and choose your state, or use the state portal link above. Registration windows are seasonal and may be closed now.
MSP 2026-27: frequently asked questions
- What is the government procurement limit per acre for paddy (dhan)?
- Limits vary by state and season. The quota table above lists the current cap used by this calculator; select your state and crop to apply it. District-level notifications can differ, so confirm with your mandi office.
- Can I use this calculator for crops that do not have an official MSP?
- Yes. Onion, potato, tomato and other horticulture crops have no MSP. Pick the crop, then choose your district and APMC market to see the live modal price and multiply it by your quantity. The page also shows the latest report date.
- Why does my final mandi payout slip show less money than the MSP calculation?
- An MSP calculation multiplies weight by the raw rate. The final slip also deducts commission or arhat, mandi cess, hamali/loading, transport and sometimes moisture or quality cuts. Use the net-payout box above to estimate; cross-check the weighing slip and your official portal statement.
- How do I legally register to sell my crop at MSP?
- Register on your state procurement portal with your land record, Aadhaar and bank details before the window closes. Complete verification, book a token or slot, carry the documents to the centre, and collect payment by DBT. This page links the national CFPP hub and state portals.
- How much can I earn from 1 acre of paddy at MSP?
- Gross MSP value per acre = your notified quota per acre × MSP. At 20 quintals/acre and ₹2,441/quintal, paddy gives ₹48,820 per acre before seed, fertiliser, labour, harvest, transport and mandi deductions. Actual yield and the district cap may be lower or higher.
- What is the MSP for paddy in Kharif 2026-27?
- ₹2,441 per quintal for common paddy and ₹2,461 for Grade A. This is the national Kharif 2026-27 rate, the same in every state.
- What is the MSP for wheat this season?
- Wheat is ₹2,610 per quintal; last season it was ₹2,585. Barley is ₹2,286, gram ₹5,958 and mustard ₹6,613 per quintal.
- Is MSP the same in every state?
- Yes. MSP is one national rate per crop, the same ₹/quintal across India. What changes by state is the procurement quota (quintals per acre) and any state bonus or input aid.
- How much paddy can I sell to the government?
- Pick your state and crop, then enter your registered acres: quota = acres × the state cap shown in the table above. Payout = quota × MSP. Caps and MSP change yearly — confirm with your mandi office.
- Which crops have MSP?
- The Centre notifies MSP for 22 crops: 14 Kharif, 6 Rabi, plus jute and copra. The table above lists 20 — the main cereals, pulses, oilseeds and cotton — with the current rate for each.
- Do I need to enter a registration number?
- No. We only deep-link to the official portal — open it there to check your own status. We never ask for OTP or Aadhaar and store nothing.
