MSP CalculatorThree ways to be involved with a mandi
Tier 1 — Sell your own crop
Free · no licence needed
Bring your own produce to sell — either in the open auction via a licensed commission agent, or through government MSP procurement. For MSP you usually need KYC + verified land records; some states also issue a token/registration for the procurement window.
Tier 2 — Trade as licensed trader/agent
Licence required · fee varies
A commission-agent / trader licence under the Maharashtra APMC (Development & Regulation) Act from the concerned Market Committee — commonly Form A / Form B style applications. Fee varies by committee and turnover.
Tier 3 — Own a private mandi
Serious capital · for FPOs/investors
A private market / farmer-producer market licence under the Maharashtra APMC Act. Non-refundable fee + bank guarantee (often Rs. 1–2 crore for large yards); a new private market usually cannot be within 5 km of an existing APMC.

How selling actually works in Maharashtra
Selling lives mostly through licensed commission agents. For farmer produce there is no compulsory token, but for MSP cotton you must register with CCI procurement centres; for onion/other crops confirm the auction timing at your mandi.
MSP procurement agency: State procurement via Maharashtra State Cooperative Marketing Federation + Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) for cotton.
Legal commission rate: Varies by commodity — roughly 2% for foodgrains, up to 6–8% for perishables in some yards. Always ask for the adat bill.
eNAM integration: About 135 APMC mandis integrated — approx.
What they don't tell you — know your rights
- • Onion export bans / stock limits appear suddenly and crash local prices.
- • Labour (hamali) and 'AI' (allowable inputs) deductions are commonly added above the auction rate.
- • Cotton MSP: farmers report damaged/grade-down deductions at ginneries.
- • Protect yourself: always take and keep the official weighment slip (parchi) and the auction bill for every sale — it is your proof in any dispute. Anything charged beyond the legal commission rate can be reported to the Market Committee.
