MSP CalculatorThree ways to be involved with a mandi
Tier 1 — Sell your own crop
Free · no licence needed
Bring your own produce to sell — either in the open auction via a licensed commission agent, or through government MSP procurement. For MSP you usually need KYC + verified land records; some states also issue a token/registration for the procurement window.
Tier 2 — Trade as licensed trader/agent
Licence required · fee varies
Trader licence under the Himachal Pradesh APMC Act.
Tier 3 — Own a private mandi
Serious capital · for FPOs/investors
Private market licence under the HP APMC Act; fee + bank guarantee; 5 km rule applies.

How selling actually works in Himachal Pradesh
Fruit (apple) has no MSP — it auctions in APMC yards. For MSP wheat/paddy (lower altitude), register at the notified mandi.
MSP procurement agency: HPMC + state agencies (MSP applies to foodgrains, not apple).
Legal commission rate: Mandi fee ~2%; commission for fruit ~6% (often disputed) — verify the notified rate.
eNAM integration: About 38 mandis integrated — approx.
What they don't tell you — know your rights
- • Apple growers report cartelised buying and delayed payments from arhtiyas.
- • Commissions on fruit are higher than foodgrain and often questioned.
- • Potato prices swing with Punjab/Delhi supply.
- • Protect yourself: always take and keep the official weighment slip (parchi) and the auction bill for every sale — it is your proof in any dispute. Anything charged beyond the legal commission rate can be reported to the Market Committee.
